Scheme of Assistance on medical grounds for disabled people under the Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme for Older People and Disabled People.

The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Governement  introduced revised Housing Grant schemes for Older people and disabled people which replaced the Disabled Persons Grant & Essential Repair Grant Schemes with effect from 01/11/2007.

Applications for a Disbled Persons Grant & Essential Repairs Grant Schemes received prior to 31/10/2007 will continue to be processed under the conditions of those schemes however *applicants may decide to withdraw their existing application and re-apply under the revised schemes.

Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme for People with a Disability 

The Housing Adaptation Grant for disabled people is available to assist in the carrying out of works that are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a disabled person who is a member of the household.

• Grant aid of up to 95% of the cost of the works to a maximum grant level  of €30,000 (including recoupment of cost of OT reports to maximum of €200)
• Prioritisation on Basis of medical need
• Means testing will apply

Mobility Aids Grants Scheme

The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme is available to fast track grant aid to cover a basic suite of works to address mobility problems, primarily, but not exclusively, associated with ageing, in order that recipients are not subject to delays in assessing works.

• Grant aid of 100% of the cost of the works up to a maximum grant level of €6,000 (including recoupment of cost of OT reports to maximum of €200)
• Income limit of €30,000
• Type of works: stairlift, level access shower, ramps, handrails
• 3 estimates required
• Means testing will apply

Housing aid for Older People Scheme

This scheme has  replaced the Essential Repairs Grants Scheme and is administered by South Dublin County Council in respect of rewiring and re-roofing type works.
